Our Leadership

OSPIRG is 100% controlled by an all-student Board of Directors. The Board has complete control over the OSPIRG budget, programs and staff (including hire/fire power).  Board members are elected by each OSPIRG chapter (we have three – UO, LCC and SOU). We also hire professional advocates to work for us in places like the State Capital in Salem to help us research problems and advocate directly to the powerful on our behalf.  This partnership of students and professional staff has allowed OSPIRG to take on big problems like health care costs and hunger and make a difference.

Lucas Rockett Gutterman is the Organizing Director for OSPIRG Students. Lucas got his start as a MASSPIRG chapter student at UMass Amherst where he was the state board treasurer and chapter chair, and worked on campaigns to help thousands of students register to vote and to lower the cost of higher education. Lucas came on to staff as a campus organizer in 2016 at Rutgers—New Brunswick where he worked with students to launch a campaign to get Rutgers to commit to 100% renewable energy and helped win the NJPIRG referendum which secured over $1.5 million in funding over the next three years
